Finished

November 30th, 2009 Courtney Conner No comments

I am finally finished with my animation project!!! I was inspired by the show Supernatural throughout the entire process because the show is about our theme of heaven and hell. In my animation my character finds her dreams become reality; she eventually dies and knows she will go to  hell. At the end of the process, I just tweaked the music a bit  and some of my frames to use Professor Raquel’s suggestions, which were very helpful. I am happy with my project and it definitely taught me more about computers and files. Well, the whole class taught me more, but anyways it is finally complete and I hope you all like it!

Storyboard and Final Touches

November 24th, 2009 No comments

All I need to do now is mount my storyboard and just make sure I have done all I could do with my project. I like it, and although I wanted to, I decided not to add the color because I felt it wouldn’t fit; however, I did end up adding the bloody tears, which I really like because it adds something to my animation. I do not have a definite title for it yet, but I am still working on it. Oh, and the music in the background I used from the show Supernatural;I remembered hearing this really depressing song on one of their previews for their season premiere, and luckily I found it as a download on the official website!! It’s called O’ Death, which is self-explanatory. For my lack of computer skills I would say I did pretty good, and I worked really hard on it. Here are some of the bloody tear pictures:

Animation Progress II

So, I have been working really hard to finish my project before fall break and I am happy to say I am very close to being finished!!! However, I still have some problems I need to work out. I am asking people to watch my video and see if it makes sense to them. For the most part they have understood, but I think it could be stronger, so I am thinking of adding bloody tears; however, I am not sure if it should be pure black or red because color doesn’t seem like it would fit, but it could really add something if used in the right way. Another thing is the music in the background. It works and everything, but I need it to flow more because I am only using two parts of a song that do not really go together along with three other sounds. But I’m sure I can work this out. I just need it to be more striking, so I am going to work at that today. The beginning and the end are fabulous. it’s just the middle (which is the meat of the story) I am concerned about. Regardless, I am still satisfied and proud of myself; It’ll be great!!! Here are some more pictures:

img017 In my animation this eventually spells “burn in hell.”

This is a picture from the show I got the demon idea from.

Lastly, these two pictures show where I plan to add the bloody tears:

When we were given the theme of heaven and hell, I was really excited!! I watch this show called Supernatural which is now playing on the apocalypse, angels, and demons, so I naturally thought of the show. For my animation I want to have a dream become a reality. A girl is sleeping and dreams of herself as a demon and sees her grave that is blank at first, but then “burn in hell,” appears on it. In the show the demons’ eyes turn this pure black, so in her dream as she wakes from the dead her eyes are black like a demons, and when she finally wakes up her eyes slowly turn black too. I’m just trying to make sure it makes since, and the music is a real struggle right now. I’m still figuring out how to put certain sounds to certain parts of the animation with iMovie. I may add more slides though if the movie doesn’t make since to some people. Anyways. here are some of my sketches for the animation project. Please comment and give me feedback! I love advice!!

So, I have drawn about maybe 40+ pictures because I messed up on a lot of them and had to do them over again. In class Tuesday I mainly focused on lining the pictures up with one another; even though I scanned them in the lab, I had to scan them over because I had some issues with lining them up, but it actually became a lot easier. I am slowly beginning to know what I am doing…

For this project I was thinking a lot about AIDS awareness and how widespread it can get through one human being. I used the red cans in my project to symbolize the base of the disease and its strength in the host. I started with the darkest red to represent someone who died from AiDS, and as one looks further down or out there is less red to represent people who aren’t showing symptoms or aren’t aware they have AIDS. I used the greens and blues to show the colors of the earth and how its spreading never stops. The size of the strips at the edges of my piece symbolize children that may get AIDS from their parents. I really just wanted to touch on this idea because I plan to work in Africa some way in the future, and this is one of their major problems.

MAYA

Maybe-1For my Maya project I wanted to do red DNA to kind of bounce off of my AIDS theme. It was difficult for me even though it looks so easy. I found myself confused. I guess I’m not a computer person, but anyways, I thought the red was really cool, and I hoped it would have been colossal, but the way I did it would have taken me FOREVER. There was probably an easier way to do it. All in all, I am pleased with my project.

Final

Well, after numbing my fingers and turning them a slight shade of grey, I am finished with my sculpture!!!!!! Well, many know my idea was centered around AIDS and how it can spread. I began with red cans and cans with some kind of red in them. Using those I would remove the bottom and top of each can and cut the middle sections of the cans into strips. After this, I would either make holes using the hole punch or the other thingy in the art room depending on where I was. I just connected each of the strips together with thinner wire and then I would connect them row wise with thicker wire. It took a long time…longer than I thought. Oh, and the green and blue I decided to add to use as colors of the earth to show how widespread it is. I cut smaller strips to represent the younger population with AIDS. And, as I said before the less red in the strip represents lack of symptoms or people being unaware that they may have AIDS. I think I based my sculpture off of this idea because I love Africa and hope to study there someday, and I know AIDS is a huge problem there for the adults and children. I like the way it turned out, but I wish it could have flowed more. I really like the abstract look though. Here it is!!

So far I have added more “people” to my chain, but i have not finished adding them. I plan to add smaller strips of can, and I also plan to continue to make the backbone of my sculpture. I decided that the color red is less prominent as the sculpture grows because I want it to represent those with AIDS who don’t know or are not showing any symptoms, yet. I also want to represent children that are affected by AIDS maybe with a different color, and maybe by connecting them to the other pieces in a different way.I’m still not sure what I will make fro my 3D sculpture, but I think it might be a building or something like that. Anyways, here is where I am right now:

Project 2 Progress

Well, for my project I was thinking about focusing on AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases and how they spread. And, you know how they say if you have sex with this person then you have had sex with everyone they have had sex with? That is mainly what I am trying to create with this sculpture; I am trying to make strips of soda cans connected to portray this saying. Please let me know what you think of my idea because I am not sure how I can make it more interesting. I have other parts of soda cans I have not used yet, so I am trying to figure out how I can use those pieces in my project.

I used The Fall of the Berlin Wall to represent differences in social class. The hands are those of the people wanting to escape from East Berlin, and the woman I drew is representing the upper class in West Berlin. In East Berlin there was less freedom and room for indulging in luxuries. So, as the wall is fell, I made the hands still connected to the wall to show that they were still connected to their class and the oppressions on the other side of the wall. I used the graffiti to show the differences in lifestyles on each side of the wall.

Almost done…..

Professor Raquel I received your email, so I took another picture of my piece. I’m not finished, yet. I think I need more contrast, and I’m trying to find a way to fill some empty space. I think I might outline the woman somehow to make her stand out more, but I’m not sure. I also think I will add shades of gray to the hands, so they don’t look so flat (again more contrast). Anyways, please tell me what you think!UntitledSome of it is cut off a little….

Project Progress

So, I am almost finished with my wall. I just have to figure out how to place everything and what I am going to add to my piece. I don’t just want a lot of paper. I was thinking about adding thread, but I’m not sure. I want the wall to look like its falling too. I just don’t know what to do! I uploaded the best picture I could get from my webcam. I forgot to ask my roommate if I could use her camera, and she is not here right now, so it would be rude to use it without her permission. Anyways, tell me what you think!

What to do....

This is Patchwork Quilt (1970) by Romare Beard. In this piece he uses fabric to create a soft texture. This work actually reminds me of my grandmother because she made a quilt for me, so I’m thinking maybe he used soft colors along with a soft texture to create a comfortable mood. The lady makes it seem cultural and reminds me of an African mother. The texture looks very smooth; nothing looks jagged or rough. He uses many rectangles and pattern designed fabrics to create his own pattern, and his shapes are very crisp in their cut (on the lady).

According to the description he also uses paper and paint. I noticed a lot of his works are placed on things that already have texture like wood, but this one is on a board. I also find the fact that the striped pink layer is the largest and it is on the woman’s body very interesting, but I think it’s probably just there to make her pop out more  because otherwise I would have focused mainly on the fabrics. The piece would have been unbalanced.

I have been focusing on the differences in social class for East and West Berlin, so I am going to have my wall covered in photographs of the real wall and try to make a clear representation of the separation. Currently, I am working on the hands I will have reaching over the wall, and I have already finished a woman, who represents the wealthier class, whom I want to be standing in the other side of the wall. I was thinking of adding barbed wire, but I am not so sure. i just know I want the photos or whatever I put on top to add some kind of texture. Lately, I have been working more on the drawing aspect and not the photography. If barbed wire is added I may try to used thread. As of right now I am just going with the flow and hoping it turns out nicely. Oh, and I can’t take pictures and post them because i don’t have a camera, and my webcam doesn’t focus directly on the picture.
